El Rocío is a pilgrimage of popular Andalusian Catholicism in honor of the Virgen Del Rocío. The pilgrimage is celebrated on the weekend of Pentecost Monday. The Virgin is located in the hermitage of El Rocío, which is in the village of Almonteña, in the province of Huelva. The brotherhood of Almonte is in charge of organizing the cults and pilgrimage of the Virgin Mary.
After traveling, on foot, on horseback, in carts decked out in carriages or in charrets, an immense multitude of devotees arrive at the doors of the hermitage, where they perform what they call the the grill. They take out the Virgin that they call “White Dove” in procession and carry it in their shoulders by the village. The journey crosses the different brotherhoods from where the priests pray the Salve, accompanied by the people of the province.
